I'd say the herd of cats comprising BigLaw continue to be mostly unherdable. One really needs to pay attention to the cats individually, and resist the temptation to describe what the herd is doing.
I would LOVE to see such data! The issue tends to be with availability—there aren't really any services or organizations that track and release such information. And because so much recruiting of law students happens outside the official on-campus interviewing program, career services offices have less data too.
Anecdotally, I spoke recently at Duke Law and Columbia Law, and I asked the students, "Would a firm's response to the Trump orders—e.g., fighting or settling—affect your decision to apply or to work at that firm?" At Duke, about two-thirds of the hands went up; at Columbia, maybe half.
Anecdotally, the student-generated spreadsheet tracking firm responses impacted my peers' decisionmaking.
I'm sure you saw the new Penn/GULC OCI schedules and I think the acceleration of the process may make students feel more pressure to get any job that's hiring.
Good analysis.

Interesting! Are there any assessments of internal quality? GPA of summer associates, etc? Are there potentially non-headcount erosions?
