Most of NSD’s work is not political (which explains why Demers was confirmed without opposition and asked to hold over after the transition). For the work of helping to keep the country safe, we want smart and capable people, regardless of the administration in power.
I agree completely, but it's not like Trump brought in many smart, capable people. He generally surrounded himself with "yes-people", and if someone deviated from that, they were fired.
